Journal’s history

This research and practical journal was created in 2007, when Faculty of Law of the Ukrainian Academy of Banking summed up the first decade of its existence. By that time, the Faculty had significant scientific potential, and the names of leading scientists – D.M. Lukianets, V.D. Chernadchuk, V.V. Sukhonos and others – have become well-known as in Ukrainian, as in foreign academic circles.  Therefore, the need to create own printed edition as a platform for the sharing of research results, analysis of legislative and law enforcement activities, discussion of current issues of jurisprudence became apparent.

The idea was supported by the management of Academy, first of all, by the rector, A. Yepifanov. In September 2007, the scientific and practical journal Legal Herald of Ukrainian Academy of Banking was registered by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, and the first issue was published in 2008.

Editorial Board was headed by Doctor of Law, Professor D.N. Lukianets and Candidate of Law, Associate Professor V.M. Zavhorodnia was its executive secretary. The Editorial Board also included a number of prominent legal scholars, including Doctor of Law, Professor, Academician of NAS of Ukraine Yu.S. Shemshuchenko, Doctor of Law, Professor O.F. Andriiko, Doctor of Law, Professor L.M. Davydenko, Doctor of Law, Professor S.G. Stetsenko.

The Herald published headings on the main branches of legal science, and later – on the teaching methods of legal disciplines. The journal quickly gained credibility and has become popular among both scholars and students, and among practitioners. In addition to manuscripts of domestic authors, it published manuscripts of scientists from Poland, Czech Republic, Russia, Belarus and other countries.

On January 26, 2011 by the Decree of the Presidium of HAC of Ukraine No.1-05/1, the journal was included in the list of scientific professional editions of Ukraine.

The new impetus to the development of the journal was the union of the Faculties of Law of Ukrainian Academy of Banking and Sumy State University and establishment of Scientific and Educational Institute of Law in 2015-2016. The journal changed its name to Legal Horizons.
